PRAYER
A FIREFIGHTER'S PRAYER

When I am called to duty, God,
wherever flames may rage,
give me strength to save a life,
whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
before it is too late,
or save an older person from
the horror of that fate.
Enable me to be alert,
and hear the weakest shout,
quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out.
I want to fill my calling,
to give the best in me,
to guard my friend and neighbor,
and protect his property.
And if according to Your will
I must answer death's call,
bless with your protecting hand,
my family one and all.

WELCOME TO OUR WEB SITE! All of the new changes and additions to Station 7, along with new faces among the firefighters demonstrate the growth of our community. Your Fire Department is carefully monitoring the expansion of our neighborhood, and we areCIMG0758.JPG changing to meet these newer, greater demands. Our station includes a ladder truck for house fires, a truck equipped for motor vehicle accidents, a 4,000 gallon tanker, two woods trucks for brush and forest fires, and over thirty volunteers to man this equipment. As you browse the pages of our web site, I urge you to look at the OFFICER'S QUARTERS page, which provides a detailed look at our station, and also provides a list of our calls from previous years to present. Please take a few minutes to take our Safety Survey. It is confidential, and you will not be contacted by us if you so wish.
Additionally, we've added a
MONTHLY TRIVIA page for members, so please join our site and enjoy taking part in it, as well.
Our volunteers are-

HERE FOR YOU, HERE WITH YOU.

WELCOME, NEW MEMBERS!
The NVFD welcomes Antone Lott and Frank Perring!  Mr. Lott joins us from North Carolina, where he served as a firefighter at Station 32, Bald Head Island.  He has logged almost 600 hours of training on a variety of equipment and rescue techniques.

We welcome these men to the NVFD.  They are a great asset to us and our community.

TRAINING
Saturday, 17 June, 2006
Assistant Chief Bobby Hall, assisted by MVC-010F.JPGemployees of Nassau County Fire and Rescue, Station 70 held a training/familiarization exercise at Station 7 in Nassauville.  MVC-006F_2.JPGBoth Stations took the opportunity to train on the NVFD's new Pumper 7, and firefighters from Station 7 were given a hands-on tour of NCFR's Engine 70 and Rescue 70.

The newest addition to Pumper 7, the PRO-PAK Foam Eductor, was tested and all firefighters were able to use the PRO-PAK and have questions answered.  Chief Hall explained the importance MVC-013F.JPGand function of the device, and demonstrated its use.

J. T. Pickett was also present, with Station 7 Firefighters.  MVC-016F.JPG"We are constantly upgrading and adding new equipment for the protection of our community, their lives and property.  With this equipment and upgrades come training.  I am very proud of the volunteer firefighters,
and the achievements they've made."

Community Relations Officer John Perry said Station 7 is certainly privileged to have the MVC-009F_2.JPGnew equipment and training.  "NCFR Chief Chuck Cooper, NVFD Chief Danny Hughes and Assistant Chief Bobby Hall, and every officer and firefighter from Stations 7 and 70 are working together to provide an invaluable service to the community.  Today was an opportunity to work side-by-side and get to know our equipment AND each other."  "We must continue our working relationship between volunteer and career firefighters, knowing each others equipment, and how our harmonious function benefits all", Chief Hall expressed.

NVFD Chief Danny Hughes said the new Foam Eductor is another great tool to be used by MVC-007F_2.JPGfirefighters.  "I believe the PRO-PAK would have made a significant impact on the 60-acre fire from less than two weeks ago.  Continuing training and upgrades of equipment are a vital necessity to EVERY fire
department.  Today's training is one of many more to come, in our fight to prevent and combat fire."

ICE
The In Case of Emergency (ICE) Campaign
has been launched worldwide. The idea is to store the word “ICE” in the address book of mobile phones with the name and phone number of the person that should be contacted in the event that the cell phone owner is injured and unable to communicate this information.  For more than one contact name and priority, use ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc. It’s that simple.

Most people carry mobile phones, but research shows that more than 75% of
people carry no details of who they would like contacted following a serious accident. With
"ICE" first responders and hospital staff will turn to a victim’s mobile phone address book and know immediately who to contact. When seconds matter, this information may be vital. For example, the emergency contact may be able to provide critical information about the victim’s medical history. Research also suggests people may recover more quickly from the psychological effects of their loved one’s injury if they are involved at an earlier stage in the emergency.

Please think carefully about the "ICE" contact, especially when minors may be involved and this person has to give consent for emergency medical treatment.

Motor Vehicle Accidents
Several motor vehicle accidents this quarter have been related to new traffic signals along our roadways. NVFD has responded to several MVA calls this quarter.
Please be especially careful in these areas. Local drivers are not used to stopping in these areas where new traffic control devices (stop signs, red-lights, etc.) have been installed. Drive defensively, and remember to watch the other drivers. You might see the red light, but they do not. You could save your own life, as well as theirs.
The curves at Albert Way on 107 have claimed more than a few vehicles.

The signs of traffic accidents are clear– downed arrow signs, tracks and skid- marks, and cleared paths through the trees should serve as reminders to us to be careful around these curves, and to NEVER drink and drive.

Exit Drills In The Home (EDITH)

The Nassauville Volunteer Fire Department is proud to offer assistance in EDITH training. When you make an appointment, a firefighter will arrive at your door with full bunker gear (for the little ones), and we’ll show you how to make your family evacuation plan– from checking the doors for heat, to crawling under the smoke, and even designating a meeting place outside of your home.
While we’re at your home, we’ll check your smoke detectors, and make recommendations for your safety. We’ll even bring a handful of coupons for items like smoke detectors, batteries, fire extinguishers and other items you’ll find useful.  For more information about E.D.I.T.H, click
